Preparing for your colour analysis appointment is just as important as the session itself. To get the most accurate results—and ensure your personal palette truly reflects your natural beauty—it’s essential to arrive in a way that lets your skin, hair, and eyes shine without distractions.
Whether you’re coming to Colors by Shiv’s private studio in Wellington or attending a virtual consultation from anywhere in New Zealand, here’s exactly what to wear (and avoid) for your colour analysis session.
Even the lightest foundation or tinted moisturiser can alter the appearance of your skin tone. For the most accurate results, arrive with a clean, makeup-free face. If you’re coming straight from somewhere and wearing makeup, no worries—I’ll provide gentle wipes so we can start fresh.
Fake tans—whether sprays, lotions, or gradual tanners—can significantly shift your undertone. If you’ve recently applied any, please allow them to fade fully before your appointment. Your natural skin is what we need to see in order to find your best colours.
To avoid colour interference during the draping process, wear a neutral, low-cut top—preferably in a shade like white, beige, grey, or soft black. This helps keep the focus on your natural features without outside colour influence.
Necklaces, earrings, and even hair accessories can reflect light and shift how colours appear on your skin. Please remove all jewellery before your session begins so we can analyse without distraction.
If possible, avoid any temporary hair colour sprays, bold eyebrow pencils, or recent colouring treatments that drastically differ from your natural tone. Don’t worry if your hair is dyed—we’ll factor that into the process—but we do want to see your natural colouring as much as possible.
If you’ve booked an online colour analysis, make sure to:
Wear a neutral top and no makeup during your photo session.
Capture your images in soft, natural daylight—no harsh shadows or artificial lighting.
Tie your hair back (if long) so your face and neck are fully visible.
Follow the prep guide sent to your email for best results.
At Colors by Shiv, your colour analysis is a deeply personal and transformative experience. By arriving prepared, you’re giving yourself the best opportunity to walk away with a palette that feels exactly right for you—enhancing your natural glow, wardrobe choices, and confidence.
✨ Ready to discover the shades that bring you to life? I can’t wait to meet you.
